Is Sebastian Vettel considering a return to Formula 1 or not? The four-time world champion was previously linked with a role at his old team Red Bull, after advisor Helmut Marko identified him as his ideal successor. However, it was the same Marko who dismissed the idea in early August. Yet, Vettel now seems to be leaving the door ajar for an F1 return, although certainly not in the role of a driver.
Rumours of a potential return of Sebastian Vettel to Formula 1 were sparked after Helmut Marko identified the German as his ideal successor. However, the same Marko put an end to a potential comeback for Vettel in early August. “The whole story didn’t go through because we had more than enough to do with the restructuring at Red Bull Racing,” the Austrian told F1 Insider.
In addition, what Red Bull was looking for in a successor to Marko did not match Vettel’s own wishes. “This is a full-time job,” the advisor further explained. “It’s not something you can do for just a few races. I don’t think what we’re looking for suits him well.”
Vettel Leaves the Door Ajar
Yet, it still seems that Vettel will be back in the paddock at some point. Although the four-time world champion will no longer be behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car, he is certainly open to fulfilling “some kind of role” in the premier class at some point. “My days as a driver are over. But maybe, to take on a certain role, that is absolutely conceivable,” the 53-time Grand Prix winner tells ZDF-Sportstudio. Vettel does not yet reveal exactly what kind of role he is thinking of.
The German further reveals that he currently has plenty to do, and also addresses the rumours that he would want to delve into endurance racing. “I once drove such a car because I found it interesting,” he continues. “It was fun, but so far nothing more has come of it. But I still have some time.”
