Michael Schumacher’s iconic Ferrari racing suit from 2000 fetched nearly 100,000 euros at an auction in Monza. During the Italian Grand Prix weekend, several items from the former Formula 1 driver went under the hammer. However, no item came close to what was eventually paid for the racing suit of the seven-time world champion for the 2000 Hungarian GP: €95,650.

Michael Schumacher wore the racing suit – as seen in the photo above – during the Hungarian GP in 2000, where the German driver eventually finished second behind winner Mika Häkkinen. That year was the first season that Schumacher won a world title while racing for Ferrari. The driver would go on to win the driver’s title for Scuderia five seasons in a row.

However, the racing suit was not the only item auctioned by the Driver Lounge. Schumacher’s Benetton-Renault racing suit from 1995 also went for a considerable amount: the suit fetched as much as €61,360. A replica of Schumacher’s 2003 Scuderia Ferrari RF1 helmet, signed, was sold for €11,520. The auction took place in the new Schumacher Lounge in Monza. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Keep Fighting Foundation, established in honor of Schumacher.

Great Success

For Rich Soddy, founder of the Driver Lounge, the auction was a great success. “Our collaboration with Bonhams beautifully manifested in the sold-out Schumacher Lounge in Monza and through the online auction that followed,” says Soddy. “We are delighted that so many of these special items have found new owners. At the same time, money has been raised for the Keep Fighting Foundation. We thank all bidders for their support and look forward to bringing the Driver Lounge back during a future Grand Prix.”
