The conditions were not safe enough to proceed with the qualifying round for the São Paulo Grand Prix on Saturday, according to Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali. He explained the decision, which was made by race officials just before 21:00 Central European Time (CET). “We simply cannot control the weather,” he said.

The heavy rainfall in the Brazilian city caused the start of the session to be delayed multiple times. “In the end, it remained too unsafe,” Domenicali stated. He also pointed out the encroaching darkness; in Brazil, the decision was made just before five o’clock. The sun sets there around half-past six. “So, at some point, you also face the problem that the track is not light enough.”

In a conversation with F1TV, Domenicali announced that the session would be moved to Sunday morning local time (Sunday afternoon in the Netherlands). The exact time will be announced later. “Driving now was and is impossible in any case.”

The race in Brazil will start on Sunday at 14:00 local time, which is 18:00 Central European Time (CET).
