Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur is under pressure due to the lack of results at Scuderia. The Italian racing team has so far scored 183 World Championship points in the current season and currently ranks third in the constructors’ championship, but this is not enough for the critical Italian media. However, former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is defending Vasseur.
Carlos Sainz was informed early in 2024 that he would be starting his final year as a Ferrari driver. The Scuderia announced in February of the previous year that the Spaniard would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton from 2025 onwards. Sainz ended his tenure with the Italian racing team on a high note with two Grand Prix victories in 2024, and Ferrari even battled with McLaren for the constructors’ title until the end of the season. As a result, expectations were high for the Scuderia at the start of 2025, but the team has not yet been able to meet them.
With only three podium finishes for Charles Leclerc so far, team boss Frédéric Vasseur is increasingly under pressure. The Frenchman now receives support, notably from a former Ferrari driver. “It’s the same story as always. When the results don’t come at Ferrari, the media always points fingers and chaos ensues,” Sainz defends the Frenchman. In Montreal, Vasseur himself already called the speculation of some Italian media about his future at Scuderia ‘completely disrespectful’.
‘Always Appreciated as Team Boss’
Sainz also praises his former team boss. “I have a great relationship with him,” adds the current Williams driver. “We clearly had a difficult month (in 2024) when he didn’t want me and Lewis signed the contract. But we both have peace with that now. I have always appreciated him as a team boss and as a person.”
