George Russell is confident that Lewis Hamilton will soon return to form at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adapt to the SF-25, and therefore has not yet achieved the desired results with the Italian team. According to his former teammate, however, it’s only a matter of time before ‘the magic of Lewis’ will be seen again.
With 31 points after five races, Lewis Hamilton currently ranks seventh in the drivers’ championship. The seven-time world champion is thus trailing his successor at Mercedes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and three places behind former teammate George Russell.
While critics, including Ralf Schumacher, question whether Hamilton has passed his peak, Russell has a very different opinion. “He is a seven-time world champion, has a wealth of experience, and is a fantastic driver,” Russell defends the Ferrari driver. “We saw it in China. He took pole position in the sprint and won the race without a hitch.”
The Magic of Lewis
Russell was Hamilton’s teammate at Mercedes for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. The Briton outperformed the seven-time world champion in several qualifications and races, and even became the first teammate of Hamilton since Nico Rosberg in 2014 to qualify more often ahead than behind the world champion. Yet, Russell dares to make a small prediction. “I know what he can do. I am certain that when everything falls into place, we will see more of Lewis’s magic.”
