In an effort to make the Monaco race more thrilling, Formula 1 is considering enforcing more pit stops for teams. This idea will be discussed in the coming weeks.
How can the Monaco Grand Prix be made more exciting? Sometimes criticized for its lack of on-track spectacle, where overtaking is very difficult, the race held in the Principality could experience a small shake-up. Formula 1 is considering enforcing more pit stops for teams, which would lead to more advanced strategies and more frequent position changes.
The FIA reports that a commission met in London on Tuesday, alongside the presentation of the 2025 season, and discussed this topic. In its statement, it specifies that “the commission agreed on increasing the number of mandatory pit stops during the race”, without providing further details.
The current regulations stipulate one mandatory pit stop per race, with two different types of tires to be fitted. This idea will now be discussed in the coming weeks. Christian Horner mentioned it to the press on Tuesday in London and he was open to a change on this specific track: “By introducing two stops, there is another dynamic,” explained the Red Bull boss. “You have to run with all three types of rubber. It’s a possibility for Monaco to move away from stagnant, boring races.”
