Max Verstappen is set to receive a crucial upgrade for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. The RB20 will undergo significant modifications for the thirteenth round of the season. According to Helmut Marko, this latest update must yield results. The Austrian acknowledges that both McLaren and Mercedes currently outperform them.
While Red Bull’s competitors gear up for a battle for the constructor’s title, Helmut Marko knows that ‘everything must go perfectly’ if they are to maintain their favorite status in Milton Keynes. In his column for Speedweek, he looks ahead to the upcoming weekend and the next showdown with the Brits. The Austrian is grateful that Verstappen will be able to use a new upgrade this coming weekend.
Striving for Perfection in Racing
“In reality, everything must be perfect for us to win a race,” states Marko. “There is no room for mistakes. In England, we were too slow on the medium tire. Thankfully, an upgrade is coming in Budapest, and we hope this will help us take a step in the right direction.” Max Verstappen crossed the finish line in Silverstone in second place – after nearly three years of dominance, the Dutchman had to admit defeat to Lewis Hamilton.
Falling Behind McLaren and Mercedes
Verstappen has two more races – Hungary and Spa – to increase his lead in the championship before Formula 1 goes into the summer break. “Budapest is a relatively slow circuit and Spa is one of Max’s favorite tracks,” writes Marko optimistically. However, the Red Bull advisor is not counting his chickens before they hatch. “This upgrade needs to work, as we are currently lagging behind McLaren and – based on England – actually also behind Mercedes.”
“We need to be able to win on our own strength again, that’s our goal,” concludes Marko. He knows that Red Bull needs two strong drivers for this. “We need two cars at the front to secure the constructors’ championship,” he explains. “We still hope that Sergio Pérez will regain his form. We will evaluate the situation again during the summer break.”
