Red Bull’s team boss responded at the FIA press conference in Austria to the ongoing feud with Jos Verstappen and Mercedes’ persistent interest in Max Verstappen’s signature. Horner stated, “If Toto really wants a Verstappen next year, I think Jos is available…”
Jos Verstappen was initially set to participate in the Legends Parade at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, driving the 2012 RB8 alongside other former drivers. However, Max Verstappen’s father later withdrew, claiming he was being undermined by Christian Horner. “I’m completely done with him,” Verstappen responded when asked.
Horner on the new controversy with Jos Verstappen: “My relationship with Max has always been good. He is our driver and that’s what’s important to me. I’ve never had problems with drivers or their fathers in the past. I have no response to Jos’s issues.”
Max Verstappen Confirms He Will Stay with Red Bull Next Season
During the FIA drivers’ press conference on Thursday, Max Verstappen confirmed that he will continue to race for Red Bull next season. Team boss Horner also commented on this and couldn’t resist taking a subtle jab at Mercedes.
‘Distraction Tactic’
“Max’s statement that he will stay with Red Bull confirms what we already knew,” says Horner. “Max is a crucial member of our team and he has a fantastic group of people around him. We know best what our future looks like. There has been a lot of speculation. Sometimes I think all the noise is a distraction tactic. The driver carousel was set in motion by one driver. Lewis Hamilton, with all his knowledge, decided to leave Mercedes and they are now looking for a replacement, but it won’t be Max Verstappen.”
Then, with a touch of humor, he added: “If Toto really wants a Verstappen next year, I think Jos is available…”
