Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, has reportedly extended his contract with Red Bull. The 43-year-old technician is said to have turned down offers from Ferrari and McLaren. With the departure of Jonathan Wheatley – who will join Sauber from 2025 – Lambiase is set for a promotion.
According to PlanetF1, Gianpiero Lambiase signed a new, multi-year contract with Red Bull during the summer break. The British-Italian engineer joined the team in 2015 after a stint at Force India, now known as Aston Martin. ‘GP’, as he is known, has been Max Verstappen’s dedicated race engineer since his transfer to Milton Keynes. Amidst the turmoil at Red Bull, both McLaren and Ferrari reportedly attempted to secure his services. However, Lambiase is said to remain loyal to his current employer.
Red Bull has undergone significant changes in recent months, with several key figures moving to rival teams. For instance, Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, after an eighteen-year tenure, has opted for a leading role in the upcoming Audi project. This move paves the way for Lambiase’s promotion, although he is expected to remain as Max Verstappen’s race engineer for the time being.
