As we approach the Belgian Grand Prix, uncertainty continues to surround Sergio Pérez and the future line-up of Red Bull. During the upcoming summer break, the team’s top brass will decide whether to replace the Mexican driver prematurely with another racer. Yuki Tsunoda is naturally one of the options, although the Japanese driver is currently unaware if he is even in contention for a Red Bull contract.

Yuki Tsunoda has been widely praised in recent months for his consistency and the growth he has demonstrated over the past four years. The 24-year-old driver himself has taken note of this. Tsunoda’s ultimate goal has always been to advance to Red Bull and compete for victories. Pérez’s potential dismissal presents a golden opportunity, although the young Japanese driver is still in the dark about the Austrians’ plans.

Yuki Tsunoda’s Expectations for the Upcoming Weeks

Motorsportweek asked him in Spa about his expectations for the upcoming weeks. Does Tsunoda think he will be allowed to join Red Bull? “If you look at the past few months, you can clearly see that I have improved a lot,” he responded. “Actually, from the very first race. The number of Q3 performances, the number of points I have earned on new circuits – I think that proves enough.”

Ricciardo and the Red Bull Team

The GP of Belgium was supposed to be Tsunoda’s last chance to prove himself to the Red Bull top. Reserve driver Liam Lawson and Visa RB teammate Daniel Ricciardo are also in line for promotion. The latter is said to be the safest choice for the team from Milton Keynes. The Australian veteran is familiar with Red Bull and will not stand in Max Verstappen’s way.

“Of course, this race will be important, but we’ll see how it goes,” Tsunoda continued. “At the moment, I don’t know if they’re considering me. There will certainly be discussions in the background. Hopefully, my name will also be mentioned. I have certainly done enough.”
