Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko confirms that Red Bull will bring new upgrades to the next two Grands Prix. The Austrian racing team hopes to give Max Verstappen a boost in his title fight with the McLaren drivers before the summer break. The Dutchman is currently 69 World Championship points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri.
Although Max Verstappen took pole position at Silverstone, it was Lando Norris who ultimately claimed victory. The two McLaren drivers crossed the finish line almost 35 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Verstappen has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the unpredictable RB21, especially after the free practice sessions on Fridays. This led to significant changes to the RB21 for the qualifying round in Great Britain. However, the car fell short in the race, partly due to the rainfall.
The next Grand Prix on the calendar, that of Belgium, has been a successful circuit for Verstappen in the past. The Dutchman triumphed three consecutive years at Spa-Francorchamps between 2021 and 2023. Advisor Helmut Marko reveals that Red Bull is bringing upgrades to the track in the Ardennes this year.
“We have the sprint format coming up during the Grand Prix weekend in Belgium and the Grand Prix of Hungary,” writes the Austrian in his Speedweek column. “The Spa-Francorchamps circuit should suit our car better, especially under the typically very changeable weather conditions. So we are optimistic about that.”
Doubts about the Hungarian GP
However, Marko is less optimistic about the last Grand Prix before the summer break: the Hungarian GP. “Hungary could be a bit more difficult for us, because of the layout of the circuit and the typically high temperatures,” Marko continues. “But we have new parts on the car for both weekends and we hope that this will have a positive effect.”
