While key figures like master designer Adrian Newey, team manager Jonathan Wheatley, and chief strategist Will Courtenay are seeking their fortunes elsewhere in the Red Bull Formula 1 team, the football division of Red Bull has made a significant move by bringing in coach Jürgen Klopp as ‘Head of Global Soccer’. Max Verstappen expresses his delight at the arrival of the successful coach.
“I knew for a while that talks were underway with Klopp,” Verstappen reveals in the run-up to the American GP in Austin, speaking to Sky UK. “I think his arrival signifies great news for the organization. Red Bull invests heavily in football and there’s a lot of young talent in the various clubs. With someone like Jürgen at the helm and the experience he brings, it can do a lot of good for the organization.”
In his new role, Klopp will oversee Red Bull’s international network of football clubs from January onwards. He won’t be involved in the clubs’ day-to-day activities, but will provide strategic vision and support individual sports directors in promoting the Red Bull philosophy. Additionally, the 57-year-old will support the organization’s global scouting and contribute to the training and development of coaches. It is expected that as the new face of Red Bull, he will also make appearances at several Formula 1 races.
