On Friday, Red Bull unveiled the RB17, the first hypercar from the Austrian Formula 1 team. The RB17, a brainchild of master designer Adrian Newey, promises to bring the F1 experience to the ‘average Joe’. With an atmospheric V10, a weight of less than 900 kilos, and a limited edition of just 50 units, the RB17 might just be the most extreme car ever.
Following the pandemic, Red Bull decided to rename the 2021 Formula 1 car to RB16B. The vehicle was, after all, a further development of its predecessor, the RB16. In 2022, with the introduction of the new ground effect regulations, the RB18 followed. For a long time, there was a missing Red Bull RB17 in the model range. Until now. On Friday, the Austrians unveiled their latest creation, an extremely limited hypercar based on Formula 1 technology.
The Red Bull RB17 was designed by Adrian Newey. The master designer has been at the forefront of all successful race cars from the energy drink manufacturer. The vehicle, which is too extreme for public roads and therefore can only be unleashed on the track, boasts a long list of dizzying features.
Formula 1 Technology
The beast is powered by an atmospheric 4.5 liter V10 engine from Cosworth. The engine only hits the red at 15,000 rpm, so it should sound like a Formula 1 car from the Schumacher era. Power is not lacking either, the engine sends a whopping 1000 horsepower to the rear wheels. In addition, the RB17 is equipped with a hybrid system – a battery provides an additional 200 horsepower. With a dry weight of under 900 kilos, this will certainly not result in slow lap times.
Anyone interested in Red Bull’s latest feat must have deep pockets. Only 50 units of the RB17 will be produced and they will cost a pretty penny. Reportedly, the car is selling for about 5 million pounds in England. That’s almost 6 million euros!
Extreme Red Bull RB17
Unfortunately, we cannot show you a picture of the extreme Red Bull RB17, but rest assured, it’s a sight to behold.
