Red Bull and Ford are in full swing developing the 2026 engine. The American company is assisting the Austrian team, under the banner of Red Bull Powertrains, primarily with the electric components. According to team boss Christian Horner, the collaboration is also ‘inspiring’. The team boss also reveals when the results of the collaboration will be visible.

Red Bull announced a partnership with American company Ford for the development of the 2026 engine back in early 2023. The Austrian racing team is currently building this first self-developed engine in a special facility in Milton Keynes. Ford is mainly assisting with the construction of the electric components.

“It’s fantastic. I think it’s great to see how Ford is involved in motorsport. We are really proud to bring the Ford Oval back into Formula 1 and to see the Ford logo on our Formula 1 cars,” Horner said during the Ford Performance event.

‘In a year’s time’

Horner also immediately reveals when exactly the result of the collaboration will be visible. “I think this week, in a year’s time, will be a very special moment. Then we will see the Red Bull and Ford powertrain for two teams in the pit lane of Barcelona.”

The British team boss continues with a eulogy for the American car manufacturer, calling the ‘passion and determination from Ford’ inspiring. “We mainly have to compete against big opponents, such as Ferrari, Mercedes, and Honda. And General Motors is coming. Although we don’t see those guys!” Horner jokes. “So it’s going to be super competitive and I think in the end it mainly comes down to the people.”
