Tyre supplier Pirelli is set to celebrate a significant milestone at the Zandvoort circuit this weekend. The Italian company will be participating in their 500th Grand Prix, thereby surpassing Goodyear’s record. Pirelli is not letting this landmark event pass unnoticed. They will be introducing a special logo on the tyres and racing cars during the Dutch GP.
Pirelli has been the sole tyre supplier for the premier class since 2011. The Italian company has been involved since the very first Grand Prix, the British GP on May 13, 1950, although not every season featured tyres from the Italian brand. For instance, Pirelli was absent for a considerable period between 1959 and 1981, and only participated in three seasons between 1987 and 2010.
Nevertheless, the tyre supplier will reach a remarkable milestone during the Dutch GP weekend in Zandvoort. The Dutch race will be Pirelli’s 500th Grand Prix, thereby setting a new record for the company. Pirelli is the first tyre supplier to have provided the rubber for a Grand Prix 500 times, thus taking the record from Goodyear, which participated in 494 races.
Special Logo
Pirelli is not letting this moment pass quietly. A special logo, featuring ‘500 GP’, will be visible on both the racing cars and the dry tyres. The celebrations will continue in Monza, where the top executives of Formula 1, FIA, and Pirelli will pose for a photo with the teams and drivers. For Zandvoort, the logo is not the only difference compared to last year’s tyres. Pirelli has also announced that they will be bringing softer tyres to the Dutch GP than they did last year. This season, the Italian tyre supplier will be providing C2, C3, and C4 tyres as the hard, medium, and soft tyres respectively.
