The Formula 1 circus is set to descend on Imola next week for the Grand Prix Emilia-Romagna. It’s been thirty years since the Brazilian racing legend Ayrton Senna passed away on this very track. To honor Senna, Pierre Gasly will be racing with a special helmet.
The yellow-green helmet bears a striking resemblance to Senna’s iconic design. After the race, the helmet of the French Alpine driver will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the Instituto Ayrton Senna.
‘Senna, a Huge Inspiration for Me’
On his Instagram account, Gasly expressed his intention to pay tribute to Senna, one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time and his personal idol. “Senna has been a huge source of inspiration for me since I started karting. I recently had the privilege of driving his first Formula 1 car at Silverstone,” said Gasly. Senna’s first F1 car was the Toleman 1984.
