Oscar Piastri missed the podium for only the second time this season at the Canadian Grand Prix. According to former world champion Nico Rosberg, who discussed this with Piastri’s manager Mark Webber, it is precisely the young Australian’s attitude that shows he is ready for the world title.

Oscar Piastri started the Canadian Grand Prix from third place, but lost a position to Kimi Antonelli at the start. The McLaren driver waited for the right moment to reclaim that spot. Only in the final stint did he manage to close the gap to the Mercedes rookie, but just as he got into position, he had a new concern to deal with.

Teammate Lando Norris, who was on an alternative strategy and had started from seventh place, was hot on the Australian’s heels. The Brit attempted an attack, but collided with Piastri and consequently dropped out of the race.

Piastri’s Composure

Despite the collision, Piastri was able to continue his race and secured twelve crucial points, after the field finished under the safety car. Although Max Verstappen narrowed the gap to the championship leader with his second place, the Australian significantly extended his lead over his main rival Norris. With fourteen races still to go, the ‘cool frog’ has a long way to go towards his first world title, but according to Nico Rosberg, Piastri’s attitude shows why he is ready for it.

The former world champion shared during the post-race analysis of the Canadian Grand Prix on Sky Sports F1 a conversation he had with Piastri’s manager Mark Webber. “I spoke with Mark Webber, who used to be my ex-teammate at Williams and is now Oscar’s manager. He also said that, whether he finishes first or fifth, he just eats a pizza in the evening and is in the same state of mind,” he revealed. “Of course, there’s some excitement after the race, but then it’s over and he moves on. He’s just super, incredibly solid.”
