Oscar Piastri emerged victorious at the Dutch GP! The Australian driver held his ground amidst multiple safety cars and retirements, including both Ferrari drivers and teammate Lando Norris. This win marks a significant step forward in the championship for Piastri.
“Of course, it feels good, but it’s a bit tough to stand here after Isack (Hadjar),” Piastri laughed immediately after the race. Hadjar secured his first podium finish at Zandvoort. “I had control of the race when it was necessary, and of course, it was unfortunate that Lando had to retire.” Norris was forced to pull off the track due to mechanical issues in the final stages of the Dutch GP. “But I was able to find the right pace when it was needed. It was certainly a different race than twelve months ago.”
A Strong Start to the Second Half of the Season
At the start of the Dutch GP weekend, Piastri himself did not expect to be standing on the top step of the podium on Sunday. “At the beginning of the weekend, it seemed like it was going to be a tough Grand Prix, but I was able to pull everything together in the qualifying,” Piastri continued. “I was very pleased with today’s pace. We had some safety cars which made for a challenging race, but we were able to handle it well. Starting the second half of the season like this is fantastic, but the season is still long.”
