The McLaren team is ready for the upcoming Miami GP. Championship leader Oscar Piastri sees opportunities to win his fourth race of the year during this first race on American soil. The Australian, after victories in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, is once again aiming for a strong weekend. Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, wants to redeem himself after two relatively mediocre performances.

After his third victory of the season, Oscar Piastri is going into a race weekend as the world championship leader for the first time, with teammate Lando Norris hot on his heels. In an official press release, Piastri expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenges in Florida, where another sprint race will be held. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work in Miami this weekend and I’m aiming to put down another strong and complete weekend before the European season begins,” said the 24-year-old driver.

‘A Special Circuit’

“I love the city, the atmosphere, the people, and the circuit,” he added. “It’s also a sprint weekend, so there will be plenty of opportunities to maintain the current momentum and energy.” In contrast to Piastri, Lando Norris needs to regain some momentum. Partly due to two disappointing qualifications in Sakhir and Jeddah, he had to relinquish the championship lead.

“It was good to recharge after a busy triple header, but I’m looking forward to getting back in the car – especially in Miami,” the Brit said. He emphasized the special bond he has with the circuit, also the battleground where he won his first Grand Prix. “This is where I won my first Formula 1 race; this circuit is special to me,” he explained. “Moreover, the fans here create a great atmosphere. I’m looking forward to seeing all those papayas in the stands. I spent last week with the team in the simulator to prepare as best as possible. It promises to be another great weekend – I’m ready for it.”
