McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have arrived at Zandvoort. The British team began their TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) test days on Wednesday, with Formula 2 driver Alex Dunne at the wheel. Now, it’s the turn of the two title contenders.
McLaren is in the midst of their second test day at the Zandvoort circuit. The British racing team had Formula 2 driver Alex Dunne driving the MCL60, the 2023 car with which McLaren finished fourth in the constructors’ championship, just the day before.
A day later, it’s the turn of drivers and title contenders Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The tests are part of McLaren’s special TPC tests. According to the TPC guidelines, teams can have their current drivers test in cars that are at least two years old for a maximum of one thousand kilometers. Additionally, drivers can participate in no more than four TPC test days. McLaren is also only allowed to use one old car for a TPC test day, meaning Piastri and Norris have to share the car at Zandvoort.
Colapinto
In addition to McLaren, Alpine also had their brand-new driver Franco Colapinto clocking up laps on the circuit in the dunes on Wednesday. The French racing team announced this week that they are replacing Jack Doohan with the Argentinean with immediate effect, and Colapinto is getting the chance to adjust to his new role as a full-time driver during the test days at Zandvoort. Insiders report that the driver clocked lap times of around 1 minute and 12 seconds. Norris, who is driving on the track a day later, secured pole position on the same track last year with a time of 1:09.673.
