Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, it’s McLaren that’s rightfully calling the shots in the World Championship. Lando Norris claimed his fifth victory of the season at the Hungaroring, but it’s his teammate Oscar Piastri who continues to hold a firm lead in the standings. Max Verstappen had a challenging Sunday, settling for ninth place, which has further increased his deficit. Below is the current standing in the World Championship after the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Piastri, with his second-place finish in Budapest, collected more valuable points and now stands at 284, nine more than Norris. The two McLaren drivers seem set to decide between themselves who will take home the world title. Verstappen, who earlier this season seemed to have a shot at a fourth championship, is slipping further down the standings and is now third with 187 points, a full 97 behind the leader. This seems to temporarily rule out the Dutchman in the title fight.
