Oscar Piastri reflects positively on his season so far. The Australian led the championship for a significant part of the year, but a recent slump in form and several crashes have seen teammate Lando Norris take over at the top. With three Grands Prix and a sprint race remaining, Piastri is currently 24 points behind Norris.
Oscar Piastri managed to reach the podium in twelve out of fourteen races in the first half of the season. The Australian even stood on the top step at six Grands Prix. The McLaren driver put together an impressive string of results and led the world championship at the start of the summer break. However, the second half of the season has been much tougher for Piastri. Multiple crashes and a lack of speed have allowed teammate and title rival Lando Norris to take the lead, leaving Piastri in second place, 24 points behind.
“I think the first half of the season was incredibly strong,” says Piastri. “Yes, there were a few races that were real learning experiences, but there were also moments that were just tough to get through.”
According to the Australian, a difficult race always yields something for the future. “I think I’ve learned something from each of those moments. No matter how tough it was, there was always something that could help me in the future.”
Lessons from Difficult Moments
Piastri emphasizes that he would have liked to achieve better results this season, but knows that not everything can go perfectly in a season. “Would I have liked to have better results? Yes, of course. But there will always be bumps in the road, not everything goes perfectly.”
The Australian is looking beyond this season and wants to continue learning and seize every opportunity to win. “Ultimately, I’m trying to learn lessons and not just prepare for this season. I want to try to win at every opportunity, throughout the rest of my career. Sometimes those tough lessons are just part of making that possible.”
