Oscar Piastri, following his victory at the Dutch GP in Zandvoort, has extended his lead over teammate Lando Norris to 34 points in the championship. However, the McLaren driver remains level-headed about his substantial lead. “I will continue doing the same as before,” he says in Monza, in the run-up to the Italian GP.

Oscar Piastri has significantly expanded his lead in the championship after his victory last Sunday in Zandvoort. The McLaren driver took full advantage of the withdrawal of teammate and title rival Lando Norris, who had to prematurely retire his MCL39 due to technical issues. With nine races remaining, Piastri now leads the World Championship by 34 points.

“For me, nothing changes,” he tells F1 TV. “My approach this year is working well. The gap is a bit larger, but certainly not reassuring. So there’s no reason for me to change anything.”

Piastri can draw on previous experiences when he was also a title contender in the junior classes. “I’ve had a much larger lead in a junior class and it had almost completely disappeared before the final round began.”
