Reportedly, Sergio Pérez has reached an agreement with Cadillac’s new team. The Americans are set to make their Formula 1 debut in 2026 and thus need to recruit two drivers for their first season in the premier class. Multiple sources have now confirmed that Cadillac has chosen two experienced and proven race winners – Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez are both said to have signed contracts.

During the summer break, various media outlets reported that Bottas was making the switch to Cadillac. The Mercedes reserve did not receive a new contract from Sauber this year and accepted a supporting role with the familiar Silberpfeile; Between 2017 and 2021, he won ten Grand Prix with the Brackley team. As a test and reserve driver, he also played a crucial role in the development of the W16 and the guidance of rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli. According to team boss Toto Wolff, however, Bottas deserves a full-time seat.

Pérez to Cadillac?

Cadillac is counting on Bottas’ experience and offered the eccentric Finn precisely the racing seat he had been dreaming of over the past year. In addition, the team wanted to bring in a second veteran. ESPN and Autosport report that 35-year-old Sergio Pérez has now signed a new contract. The official announcement is expected later this week, possibly with the presentation of both drivers at the same time.

Pérez not only brings a wealth of experience but also lucrative sponsorship deals. He was known for years as a strong midfield driver before making the switch to top team Red Bull in 2021. There, he achieved multiple victories, although he never posed a serious threat to teammate Max Verstappen. Especially in his last year in Milton Keynes, he struggled with a persistent form crisis. His contract was therefore terminated early, paving the way for Racing Bulls talent Liam Lawson.
