Oscar Piastri Secures Second Place Start for the Italian GP
Oscar Piastri will start in second place for the Italian Grand Prix. After an intense qualifying session, only his teammate Lando Norris managed to outperform him. This result signifies a one-two for McLaren, which once again appears to have the fastest car. Piastri, aware that Monza has a long run-up to the first corner, sees opportunities for himself, the 23-year-old Australian.
“My first lap was very good, the second one was a bit less so,” Oscar Piastri said after the session. “It’s not the first time I’ve said that,” he joked. The McLaren driver has often had to concede time to teammate Lando Norris, and in Italy, the Englishman was one-tenth faster than his teammate.
Piastri Satisfied with Second Starting Position
Nevertheless, Oscar Piastri is satisfied with his second starting position. “The field is very close together, so it wasn’t a given that we could score a one-two,” he continued. “Moreover, it’s already a much better start than last week.” In Zandvoort, Piastri had a mediocre qualification and ultimately clocked ‘only’ the eighth time. Now that he’s starting from P2, he can challenge his teammate in the race for the lead position. “With such a long run-up to the first corner, the second place isn’t so bad,” he concluded. “But we’ll have to see what the tires do first.”
