Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris celebrated a one-two finish for McLaren at the Hungarian Grand Prix, marking Piastri’s first victory in Formula 1. The team’s performance at the Hungaroring was commendable, although it was somewhat overshadowed by a team order debacle during the race. However, Piastri didn’t let that dampen his spirits as he celebrated his maiden Grand Prix win in his unique style.
Oscar Piastri’s first victory was initially overshadowed by a minor incident with Lando Norris. Norris, who was in P2, was the first to be called in for a pit stop, effectively performing an undercut on his teammate. Norris thus took the lead, but after persistent urging from the team, he conceded the victory to Piastri at the last moment.
McDonald’s and Monopoly: A Celebration
Piastri confirmed in a conversation with Fox Sports that the air has been cleared. He and Norris were able to celebrate their success in Hungary together. “We flew back home together,” Piastri shared. “Alex Albon and a few other drivers were also there. Our flight was slightly delayed, so we even managed to grab some ‘Macca’s’ (Australian nickname for McDonald’s).” After enjoying a Big Mac, Piastri said the celebrations remained fairly modest.
“There was nothing crazy, just a few Formula 1 drivers grabbing some burgers and chicken nuggets,” he laughed. “On the plane, we played Monopoly. Albon taught us a lesson in that. I got home around 05:00 UST and that was it. It wasn’t the most glamorous afterparty, let’s put it that way.”
How does the 23-year-old Australian look back on his performance now? “Of course, I’m very happy with the victory and the result, but I’m especially proud of how I put myself in that position,” he explained. “I had a good start and a very strong first half of the race. Comparing it to last year, it’s nice to see how our fate has changed so dramatically.”
