Nyck de Vries and Robin Frijns were unable to compete for victory in the second Formula E race of the year on Saturday evening. The Dutch drivers finished eighth and twelfth respectively in the ePrix in Mexico City. The British driver Oliver Rowland claimed the victory.

As is often the case in Formula E, the real drama unfolded towards the end. A neutralization brought the field close together, partly due to the retirement of Mitch Evans. The New Zealander had won the season’s opening race in São Paulo just a few weeks earlier. The winner of the second race remained uncertain until the very end: Rowland was engaged in a fierce battle with Antonio Felix da Costa. The Englishman emerged victorious. Behind the Portuguese driver, reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein secured third place.

De Vries, who started twelfth and had previously finished sixth in Brazil, earned some valuable points for the Mahindra team with his eighth-place finish. The 2021 Formula E champion is thus solidifying his position in the upper-middle of the standings. Frijns, despite a commendable effort to move up from P20, did not see his efforts rewarded; he is still waiting for his first points of the season.

The next race weekend is scheduled for mid-February in Jeddah. Races are planned for both the 14th and 15th of February. As in Mexico, the Formula E drivers in Saudi Arabia will be racing on a shortened version of the local Formula 1 circuit.
