Esteban Ocon has been disqualified after the qualifying round for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix: as a result, he will start the race from the very back on Sunday. The reason for the disqualification is that his Haas vehicle did not comply with the rules during Saturday’s event in Baku.

During a technical inspection after his qualifying performance, the FIA determined that Ocon’s rear wing bent more than the allowed limit. According to the regulations, the deviation can be a maximum of 0.5 millimeters, but values of 0.6 and 0.825 millimeters were measured on the Frenchman’s car.

‘Production Issue’

Haas stated that the deviation was due to a production issue with this specific part. The team emphasized that there was no intention of breaking the rules. Nevertheless, the stewards decided to disqualify. “The car does not comply with the technical regulations and therefore must be excluded from the qualification.”

Ocon’s disqualification means that he will be at the very back of the grid on Sunday. The Frenchman initially finished eighteenth and thus already dropped out during the qualification in Q1. Therefore, Ocon does not lose many positions due to the penalty.
