In the first of two Formula E races in Jeddah, Nyck de Vries narrowly missed the podium on Friday. The Mahindra driver had to settle for fourth place after a thrilling battle. Maximilian Günther won the race in Saudi Arabia, with Robin Frijns finishing in thirteenth place.
De Vries, who started in sixth place, seemed to be on track for a top-three finish in Jeddah. The race saw a constant battle for the podium positions, with McLaren driver Taylor Barnard and De Vries even coming into contact. However, the Dutchman managed to keep his Mahindra under control and continue the race. In the 29th lap, after several position changes at the front, De Vries had to concede to Barnard, who finished third.
Günther’s Victory
Oliver Rowland, on the other hand, seemed to be on his way to victory for a long time. However, towards the end of the race, he struggled with handling, Günther closed in, and the German driver overtook the Brit in the final stages. Thus, he secured his first victory for DS Penske. Far behind the leaders, Frijns did not score any points, ending up in the thirteenth place. The Formula E drivers in Jeddah have another race waiting for them on Saturday evening. Before that, there will be a qualifying session during the day.
