Lando Norris claimed victory at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, but the talk of the day was undoubtedly Max Verstappen‘s unexpected exit. After scoring points in 31 consecutive races, the Dutch driver had to throw in the towel after just one lap in Spielberg. A collision with Andrea Kimi Antonelli abruptly ended his race, causing him to lose significant ground in the World Championship standings. McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, of course, capitalized on their title rival’s misfortune.
With his third win of the season, Norris is making excellent progress in the championship. He has gained seven points on his teammate, bringing the difference between them to 15 points. Yuki Tsunoda, who was tasked with defending Red Bull’s honor on their home track, could only manage a sixteenth-place finish. This marked the end of an impressive streak of 77 consecutive points finishes for Red Bull. At the bottom of the standings, Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto achieved a significant milestone. Thanks to his eighth-place finish, he scored his first points in Formula 1.
