Lando Norris was candid in his post-race assessment: he didn’t believe victory was within his grasp at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday. The McLaren driver had to settle for second place, behind his teammate Oscar Piastri. “He deserved the win, I can’t complain,” Norris stated.
For the British driver, the second-place finish meant he suffered a setback in the championship race. His deficit increased from nine to sixteen points. This was despite Lando Norris starting from pole position. “But Oscar performed well at the start, had more grip, and overtook me. After that, I couldn’t do much to counter him,” he explained.
Norris’ gamble to switch to hard tyres also didn’t yield the desired results. However, he felt it was worth the attempt. “I would have liked more, but it wasn’t to be. I’m happy for the team though, it’s a nice 1-2 finish. And I’m looking forward to next week, the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. I usually perform better in that race than this one,” he added.
