The 2025 season has four Grands Prix and two sprint races remaining. In the world championship, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen – in that order – are heading towards a spectacular season finale. All three still have a chance at the title, which only increases the pressure in these last six races. The Swiss press is using last year’s results to make a prediction about the impending final sprint; will Lando Norris emerge as the winner from this three-way battle?
During the last four Grands Prix – including two sprint weekends – there are still 116 World Championship points up for grabs. The current standings in the world championship are as follows: Lando Norris (357 points) has been leading since the Mexican GP, closely followed by teammate Oscar Piastri (356 points). Reigning world champion Max Verstappen (321 points) completes the top three. Renowned Formula 1 journalist Roger Benoit from the Swiss Blick has – based on the results of 2024 – calculated who will eventually take the win.
If the three title rivals achieve the same results as last year, Lando Norris will take the championship in 2025. With 414 points, he would finish ahead of Piastri (397) and Verstappen (395). “It’s a gamble,” emphasizes Benoit. He wonders if Norris will not succumb to ‘the immense pressure’. “One thing is clear, after the team orders in Monza, Piastri is a shadow of himself – both mentally and in terms of driving skills,” he added. “Can he fight back, or is he already thinking about a transfer in 2027?”
Benoit is referring to rumors that Piastri, partly due to McLaren’s controversial ‘papaya rules’, is exploring his options elsewhere. In October, he reported that the Australian’s management has held exploratory talks with Ferrari.
