The Formula 1 season reaches a thrilling climax this Sunday in Abu Dhabi, with three contenders still in the running for the world title. Who will it be: Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, or Max Verstappen? This week, we’re counting down with three questions for famous compatriots from both inside and outside the world of sports. Today, part 1: former speed skating champion Marianne Timmer, who recently launched her own jewelry line (Flamore ’98). “If Max really gets angry, anything is possible.”

– How have you followed the Formula 1 season so far?

“With great interest, albeit from the sidelines, as I’m not always able to watch. But I genuinely find it a fascinating sport. The focus in Formula 1 is always on the drivers, they’re in the spotlight, but behind the scenes, hundreds of people from all teams contribute with just as much passion and dedication to the performances on the track. That aspect intrigues me greatly. I also attended the Dutch GP in Zandvoort this season. What a unique event that is! So yes, I definitely follow the sport!”

– Who will be the world champion?

“Max! He’s simply an athlete of the highest caliber. The way he drives often makes his rivals look like little boys. I find that very special to see every time. Max is also someone who always keeps his cool, unlike, for example, Lando Norris. Sure, Max is currently twelve points behind in the championship standings, but if he really gets angry, anything is possible and he’s capable of special things. Motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings has a bit of that too. Sometimes you see him jump over a hill with his bike and pass five people in the air, which is also unbelievable.”

How Will You Watch the Final Race in Abu Dhabi on Sunday?

“In Thialf, haha. I will be attending the World Cup speed skating as a guest of Team IKO to watch the matches and do some interviews. But in between, I will definitely watch Formula 1, I absolutely do not want to miss that.”

Marianne Timmer is working on her own jewelry line, Flamore ’98.
