Teammates, title rivals; the relationship between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris is potentially complex. However, according to Norris, the impact is quite manageable. “We don’t play golf together, but we still get along really well.”
In the lead-up to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris delved deeper into his current relationship with Piastri. Their mutual relations have been under scrutiny for some time. Not surprising, given the tension in the title race: it would be the first for both of them. And that as two teammates duelling. “You’re aiming for your own performance, but still: our relationship is better than ever.”
Piastri and Norris are not friends, as in: they don’t seek each other out much or at all outside of the sport. “It’s not like with Carlos Sainz, that I go golfing with Oscar. But I didn’t do that with Daniel Ricciardo either when we were teammates. And I get along well with all of them, which I think is really important and something I want. We joke around, we’re just different types. He’s calm, down-to-earth, relaxed. With me, you can see much more from my behaviour how I am, or how I feel.”
Norris believes that the relations will still be good once the title fight is over. Until that battle, they will fight together to the bitter end for the championship. “But with respect, as we always do.”
