Lando Norris triumphed in the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend, finishing seven-tenths ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. This marked another one-two finish for the papayas, who are dominating both championships this season. The success in Budapest was also the fourth consecutive one-two for McLaren, which is chasing the dominance record of Formula 1 powerhouses Mercedes and Ferrari.

In Hungary, Norris executed a flawless one-stop strategy and reduced the championship gap with Piastri to nine points. The Australian challenged him for the win in the final stages, but admitted afterwards that he would have needed more time on the tight, twisty circuit to actually overtake his teammate. After previous victories in Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, and Spielberg, McLaren once again occupied the top two podium spots. As a result, the team walked away with the maximum number of points.

The current record for consecutive one-twos in Formula 1 stands at five and is held by both Ferrari and Mercedes. McLaren is currently at four. Only once before have the Brits managed to score four one-twos in a row – in 1988, with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. For now, McLaren holds all the cards to equal Mercedes and Ferrari at the upcoming Dutch GP in Zandvoort.
