Zak Brown reflects on a ‘nerve-wracking’ Hungarian Grand Prix. McLaren recorded a new one-two finish at the Hungaroring, with Lando Norris emerging as the big winner, followed by teammate Oscar Piastri. In the final stages of the race, the two papayas were battling each other; Piastri was chasing the lead and nearly pushed his colleague off the track. Brown visibly enjoyed the duel and reiterated that he does not want to intervene.
“Fantastic, it was a perfect day,” a beaming Zak Brown responded to Viaplay. “Our pit stops were flawless and the drivers were fantastic. Norris didn’t have the best start – at one point we even doubted whether a one-two finish would be achievable. All the more beautiful it was to see him eventually in the first place and racing so strongly. I am incredibly proud of the whole team.”
‘On to Zandvoort’
However, the American McLaren CEO was also on the edge of his seat at times. “They fought hard,” Zak Brown admitted with a laugh. “They really went for it. Oscar (Piastri) of course had fresher tires at the end and was on a different strategy. But we always let them race, as promised. This time Norris came out on top. It was nerve-wracking to watch at times, but also incredibly fun.”
As far as Zak Brown is concerned, the upcoming summer break can be over quickly. “I’m ready to race again, I’m looking forward to it,” he joked finally. “Of course the team can use a well-deserved break, but in Zandvoort we will go full throttle again.”
