Lando Norris had to concede the pole position in the qualifying round for the United States Grand Prix to Max Verstappen, but the British driver was not fazed. “Starting from P2 is good, it could have been much worse,” he said.
While his teammate Oscar Piastri only managed to secure the sixth position, Norris claimed a spot on the front row. This provides a promising outlook for the McLaren driver in the title race, as he can close the gap on leader Piastri. However, Norris is aware that Verstappen, who already claimed victory in the sprint race, is on the rise. “Max is fast, he was today too. I struggled, on the other hand, I was more comfortable on Friday. It might be due to the wind, but I had trouble driving a good lap,” he said.
Therefore, Norris never saw a first-place finish as a possibility during the qualifying round. “I had no chance for pole,” was the British driver’s telling conclusion. “Now I just hope that I won’t get hit after the start. I’m looking forward to a good race with Max.”
