The likelihood of Max Verstappen making a switch to Mercedes is increasing, according to former Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg. The German believes there’s a “more than fifty percent” chance that the Dutchman will move to the German racing team.
Despite Verstappen still leading the drivers’ championship, it’s been five races since the Dutchman last claimed victory. Mercedes, in particular, has been capitalizing on Red Bull’s dip in form, securing wins in three of the last four races. Consequently, rumors of Verstappen making a switch to the German racing team are circulating once again.
Nico Rosberg Believes Max Verstappen May Join Mercedes
Former Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg believes that the rumors of Max Verstappen potentially joining Mercedes are more than just speculation. “My gut feeling, from what I hear, is that there is more than a fifty percent chance that Verstappen will make the switch to Mercedes,” the German stated in a conversation with Sky Germany.
‘Mercedes Has Much More Power’
Rosberg also explains why Mercedes seems to be an increasingly better choice for Verstappen. “You also hear that with the engine development at Mercedes, especially for the new 2026 regulations, they really have a lead. That is of course crucial,” explains the former F1 driver. “That was also the big advantage of Mercedes in my time, simply much more power than all the others. That could be the case again. So yes, there is a good chance that this will happen,” Rosberg concluded.
The German therefore also has some advice for Mercedes. “If Max Verstappen, who is one of the five best drivers of all time, is available, you should take him immediately,” says Rosberg.
