Nico Hülkenberg, the popular German driver who has made a name for himself at Haas, continues to impress in 2024 with multiple point finishes. His contract is set to expire at the end of this season, but reportedly, there’s considerable interest from other teams to keep the 36-year-old driver in Formula 1 for longer.

Nico Hülkenberg revealed during the weekend in Suzuka that he has several options with other teams. However, the Haas driver is in no rush to sign a new contract. “I think it’s still early in the season,” he said. “But the ball is already rolling with several teams. I think the coming weeks will be quite interesting. But personally, I’m not in a big hurry, I don’t think I need to make a choice tomorrow.”

The Future of Audi-Sauber and Nico Hülkenberg

All signs point to the future Audi-Sauber aiming for an agreement with Nico Hülkenberg. The 36-year-old driver can bring a wealth of experience to the team and also possesses the German passport that the team values so highly. Hülkenberg could thus become a figurehead for German fans and the all-important sponsors. If the move is made, a spot at Haas could open up for F2 driver Oliver Bearman.

Nico Hülkenberg’s Career

The team that manages to secure Nico Hülkenberg will be signing a Formula 1 veteran. The German has a long history in the sport and is clearly not averse to a transfer. He has driven for five of the ten teams that will be on the grid in 2024.

Hülkenberg made his debut in 2010 for the Williams team, before committing to the then Force India (now Aston Martin) two years later. In 2013, he made a detour to Sauber, but returned to Force India after just one season. From 2017 to 2019, he was a driver for Renault (now Alpine). Once replaced by Esteban Ocon, Hülkenberg worked as a reserve driver. In 2023, he officially returned to Formula 1 when he was offered a permanent seat at Haas.
