Formula 1 veteran Nico Hülkenberg has consistently scored points this season for the Haas team. The German driver’s impressive performance in the VF-24 has earned him a new contract with Sauber. Despite his future plans, the current season is still young, and Hülkenberg is determined to keep scoring for the Americans. “I’m not going to give Sauber any gifts,” he asserts.
During the race weekend in Miami, Nico Hülkenberg finished seventh in the sprint race, earning two World Championship points. In the Grand Prix, the 36-year-old German narrowly missed out, finishing just behind Esteban Ocon, who recorded his first top ten of the season. Overall, it was a ‘good weekend’ for the Haas driver, although an extra point would have been ‘the icing on the cake.’
Despite his new contract, Hülkenberg’s focus remains firmly on Haas. “Of course, I’m thrilled [with the new contract],” he said in Miami. “I’m not used to committing so early. It makes everything a bit more comfortable, now I can focus on the rest of the season.” But the German driver isn’t resting on his laurels. “Of course, I want to finish the year as successfully as possible,” he concluded. “I’m not going to give my future team any gifts, I still want to beat them.”
Positive Momentum for Haas
According to Nico Hülkenberg, there’s a positive momentum for Haas. After a disastrous 2023, the team is doing well in the constructors’ championship. Thanks to scoreless races from Williams and Sauber, the Americans are in seventh place. “In Imola, we have some upgrades coming that will hopefully bring us closer to Visa RB,” Hülkenberg told Formula1.com. “They look very strong right now.”
