The helmet worn by Nico Hülkenberg during the Dutch GP in Zandvoort fetched a record-breaking €70,500 at an auction held at the circuit. The proceeds will be donated to Lymph&Co, a foundation co-owned by Bernhard van Oranje, who also co-owns the circuit.
The Auction
The auction took place in the Founders Lounge at Zandvoort and was hosted by TV presenter and former rugby player JayJay Boske. Hülkenberg’s helmet was specially designed with an orange-white theme for the Zandvoort race.
About Lymph&Co
Lymph&Co is dedicated to financially supporting scientific research into lymphoma and raising as much awareness as possible about this form of cancer.
Support from Nico Hülkenberg
“Nico and his manager Raoul reached out because they wanted to support a good cause. We discussed Lymph&Co, partly as an extension of the collaboration we as a foundation had last year with the Haas F1 team. The initiative for this action came from Nico himself, which I think is wonderful. He also has a real connection with the Netherlands, so for that reason, he wanted to do something special here,” Van Oranje explained about the collaboration.
Prince Bernhard’s Personal Connection
Prince Bernhard, who himself had lymphoma but overcame the disease, is deeply committed to his foundation. “Approximately one in fifty people are diagnosed with lymphoma. In the Netherlands alone, about 4,000 new patients are added each year, and this number is increasing. Among children, it is already the third type of cancer. We support the best fundamental research worldwide to try to develop new treatments or cures. We receive requests from all over the world. Every euro that comes to us goes to research.”
