Could drivers soon be required to make two, or perhaps even four pit stops during the Monaco Grand Prix? This is a distinct possibility. The Formula 1 Commission has agreed to increase the number of mandatory pit stops in the race with the aim of ‘promoting better racing during the Monaco Grand Prix’.
Today, during the first meeting of the Formula 1 Commission in 2025, the commission discussed proposals for Monaco-specific regulations. Among others, FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis and CEO Stefano Domenicali were present at the session. The proposal will be further discussed by the Sports Advisory Committee in the coming weeks.
Approved Changes
Furthermore, the FIA announced that changes have already been approved for the technical, sporting, and financial regulations for 2025. The most important ones are listed below.
- From the Spanish Grand Prix onwards, new, stricter deflection tests on the front wing will be introduced.
- New, stricter deflection tests on the rear wing from the start of the season.
- Completion of the cooling system for the drivers after work between the FIA and the Formula 1 teams, supported by changes to determine when such systems should be used.
- Removal of the restrictions on the number of gearboxes used by teams, as the reliability of current designs makes this limitation obsolete.
- A number of revisions and clarifications of the start procedures for the sprint and the race, including those related to the aborted start.
