Mick Schumacher still hopes for a comeback in Formula 1. The young driver raced for Haas for two seasons between 2021 and 2022, but has not been given another opportunity in the premier class since then. A contract with Alpine slipped through his fingers, although he still drives for the French team’s WEC team. Reportedly, opportunities now lie with Cadillac; Schumacher is said to have already spoken with the team management during the race weekend in Miami.

German publication BILD reported that Mick Schumacher had discussions with Cadillac’s top brass in Miami. The Americans will participate in the Formula 1 championship from 2026, but have not yet contracted any drivers. Top advisor and former world champion Mario Andretti has repeatedly hinted that Cadillac is looking for an American driver and a driver with a lot of experience. The question is whether Mick Schumacher fits the latter profile.

At twenty-six years old, Schumacher is still young, although he does have some Formula 1 experience. In addition, he carries a famous surname, which also holds significant value in the United States. According to BILD, Schumacher has at least been able to put himself forward as a candidate at Cadillac. He is said to have attended a private event hosted by the team in Miami Beach on Saturday evening, where he had the opportunity to discuss a possible shared future.

Herta and Pérez

Other contenders include IndyCar driver Colton Herta and former Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez. Herta has long been linked to a Formula 1 seat and, given his American nationality, is a popular choice. However, he currently does not possess a super license. Pérez, a six-time Grand Prix winner, is considered a seasoned force. During the same event in Miami, his fans were on the sidewalk chanting his name.

After two disappointing seasons with Haas, Mick Schumacher served two years as a test and reserve driver for Mercedes. Since last year, he has also been competing in the WEC, with Alpine’s endurance team. He hoped to transition to the French team’s Formula 1 squad in 2025, but in Enstone, they ultimately chose to collaborate with Australian Jack Doohan.
