Mick Schumacher has caught the attention of Cadillac. The former Haas driver has already had a discussion and is interested in the ‘fantastic’ project. He believes he is ready for it: “There are many different aspects that I believe have certainly made me a better driver.”
Mick Schumacher competed for backmarker Haas in 2021 and 2022. After two challenging seasons with the American team, the German was sidelined. “I believe everything happens for a reason in life, and you shouldn’t be discouraged by it, but see it as an opportunity to move forward,” Schumacher told The New York Times. Although he has been linked with a return to Formula 1 several times since then, he has consistently been overlooked. This led to a move to the World Endurance Championship with Alpine and a role as a reserve driver for Mercedes.
Yet, there is a glimmer of hope for Schumacher once again. He is reportedly on Cadillac’s list, which will enter Formula 1 as the eleventh team next season. “Formula 1 is a subject that is close to my heart,” Schumacher said. “I love Formula 1. I’ve been crazy about it since I was a little boy. It has never been out of my sight. There is now a fantastic project on the table, a very interesting subject,” he added, referring to Cadillac.
Toolbox
Recently, Schumacher attended the Grand Prix in Miami, where he had discussions with Dan Towriss, the CEO of Cadillac. “It was important to be there and it felt great to be back in the Formula 1 paddock,” said Schumacher. “It’s a wonderful place with fantastic races: it’s not for nothing that it’s the highest level in motorsport.”
Schumacher is convinced that he has become a better driver in the past two and a half years. “I was a reserve driver at Mercedes and then, while also working with McLaren and Williams, I gained a lot of knowledge in that area. Then came the WEC, a great championship in which I learned a lot and discovered something new. I think that if you have a broader spectrum of knowledge, you are more useful for other things. Also internally, in the way systems work, because in Formula 1 they are very limited,” he explained. “There are a whole bunch of different aspects that I think have definitely made me a better driver. Combined with my time at Mercedes, it has been very valuable to further expand my toolbox.”
