A new season, a fresh line-up, and a car ready to make a difference. Mercedes takes a step towards the future with the W16, aiming to return to the absolute pinnacle of Formula 1. Team boss Toto Wolff speaks confidently about the next chapter in the team’s rich history: “We are building on our impressive past and can’t wait to race again.”

The Pursuit of Consistent Success

After a fluctuating 2024 season, in which Mercedes did secure victories but was not a consistent challenger for the title, the team has worked hard to make a forward leap with the W16. Wolff emphasizes that the first race in Australia will reveal the true extent of this progress. “We have made strides during the winter, but only in Melbourne will we know where we truly stand.”

With a keen eye on consistent success, Mercedes relies on a duo that combines both experience and young talent. George Russell is given the role of leading force. “George has proven to be one of the best drivers on the grid. If we give him a competitive car, he can fight for the championship,” asserts Wolff.

Antonelli’s Debut: Spotlight on Young Talent

Alongside Lewis Hamilton, 18-year-old Italian prodigy Kimi Antonelli is making his debut in Formula 1. The rookie has impressed in the feeder series, with titles in Formula 4 and Formula Regional, and victories in Formula 2. “I am very grateful to Mercedes for the opportunity they are giving me. I have worked hard this winter to prepare myself and I can’t wait to get started,” says the Italian. Wolff acknowledges that it will be a season full of learning moments for the young driver. “He has all the qualities to achieve great things, but as with every debutant, there will be highs and lows.”

Russell is also looking forward to the collaboration. “Kimi is incredibly fast and I think we make a strong duo. Of course, he still has a lot to learn, but I’m happy to help wherever I can and together we will take the team further.”
