Mercedes’ Technical Director, James Allison, reveals that his team will be bringing ‘clearly visible’ upgrades in the coming period. These upgrades are not the first modifications to the W16, but according to Allison, previous updates were not ‘particularly large or sexy’. ‘We want to ensure that we deliver on our Saturday promise on Sunday,’ says the Brit.

After six Grand Prix, Mercedes is second behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship with 141 points. This marks the best season start in four years for the team, since the ground effect regulation came into effect in 2022. The German team is keen to further improve its performance and therefore brought upgrades to the GP Miami.

Zichtbaardere upgrades

“We have already brought a number of upgrades,” also reveals Technical Director James Allison in the Race Debrief video. “These were not necessarily very large or sexy, but they came at a steady pace.” The previous new parts were not easy to spot, but according to the Brit, the next upgrades will be clearly visible.

“There are a few that will be more clearly visible to the outside world in the coming races,” continues the Mercedes executive. “And with a bit of luck, they will improve our results.” According to Allison, Mercedes is already ‘quite strong’ during qualifications, and the upgrades are therefore primarily intended to improve the race pace. “We want to ensure that we deliver on our Saturday promise on Sunday. And that has everything to do with controlling the temperature of the tires and ensuring that the car can utilize the speed it has.”
