McLaren’s team principal, Andrea Stella, was visibly irritated after the premature end of the United States Grand Prix for Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The duo was involved in an incident in the first turn of the opening lap, causing damage to several cars.

“We are disappointed that we didn’t get the chance to race,” Stella said to Sky Sports’ camera after the race. “The incident in the first turn took both cars out of the race. It’s surprising that some drivers with so much experience don’t act with a bit more caution,” he sniped at the crash’s instigator, Nico Hülkenberg. “You go into the first turn, make sure you don’t damage anyone, and then continue driving.”

Although the Italian doesn’t suspect any ill intentions, he found the actions of some rivals unnecessarily risky. “I’m not talking about intent, but about caution. Especially when you start in a strong position, a bit more caution would have been good for everyone.”

McLaren lost crucial points in the world championship race due to the double retirement, in which Piastri is leading. “We lost eight points with both drivers, but we focus on ourselves,” Stella believes. “We know we have a competitive car and two strong drivers. If we can race normally, the results will come naturally.”
