McLaren’s team boss, Andrea Stella, has extended his contract for several more years. The 53-year-old Italian, who was appointed as Andreas Seidl’s replacement in 2022, has played a significant role in McLaren’s sudden rise in the rankings. CEO Zak Brown hopes that Stella’s new contract will lay the foundation for future world championships.
Andrea Stella joined McLaren in 2015 and was promoted to team boss two years ago. In the past, he was an engineer at Ferrari and worked with the likes of Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso. He signed a new contract with McLaren on Thursday.
Continued Leadership at McLaren
“It is a privilege to be part of the McLaren Formula 1 team, and I am honored to continue my role as team boss,” he stated. “We have made significant progress over the past year and a half, but we still have a lot more work to do before we consistently stand at the front of the grid.”
Stability
CEO Zak Brown is delighted that he can create a certain stability within McLaren with Andrea Stella. “Andrea Stella’s excellent leadership, expertise, and the respect he enjoys within the team and Formula 1 mean that we could not have a better person to continually compete,” he responded. “In his role as team boss, he has had a profound impact on McLaren, not only through our results on the track, but also in his development of our culture and mindset.”
With the extension of Andrea Stella’s contract, the entire line-up at McLaren is assured of a future. Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are also secured for several years. “Now we can confidently continue our journey to the world championship,” Brown concluded. “We are all looking forward to many more years under the leadership of Andrea Stella.”
