Dutch racer Maya Weug claimed her second victory in the F1 Academy at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Racing for the MP Motorsport team, Weug won the feeder series race on Sunday in Jeddah, after finishing second in the opening race just a day earlier.

The race was not without its challenges for Weug, who encountered fierce competition from Chloe Chambers in the F1 Academy race. During their battle, Chambers ultimately pushed Weug off the track. The American was penalized with a five-second time penalty. Chambers crossed the finish line first, closely followed by Weug, but had to concede the victory to the Dutch racer due to the time penalty.

‘Crazy Race’

“Of course, I feel happy,” says a smiling Weug after the race. “It was a crazy race. The first laps were crucial for overtaking, so I tried to do that right away. I had a good start and was able to pass Doriane (Pin) immediately. During the first laps, we had a good pace, but it was still a battle.”

Weug, who is backed by Ferrari, faced the consequences of the early race skirmishes and pushing in the final laps. “As the race settled into a rhythm, I started to push. However, this meant that I struggled with the rear tires in this heat during the final laps. We can be happy, we scored points and made up for a not so good Friday,” she said. Doriane Pin completed the podium in Jeddah.
