Just a day after Nina Gademan’s victory in the first F1 Academy race at Zandvoort, it was Maya Weug’s turn on Sunday morning. The Dutch driver thus ensured a second home celebration for the fans present. Alisha Palmowski and Doriane Pin completed the podium.
It took a good seven seconds before Alisha Palmowski crossed the finish line after winner Maya Weug. Prior to the main Formula 1 race on Sunday, the second race of the weekend for the F1 Academy was scheduled. Weug had the best starting position to seize the victory, as the Dutch driver started the race from pole position. She got off to a good start and did not relinquish her leading position for seventeen laps.
Double Dutch Success
Weug’s victory meant that the Dutch national anthem, the Wilhelmus, was heard for the second time during the weekend at Zandvoort. Compatriot Nina Gademan had already converted a pole position into a victory a day earlier. Weug also stood on the podium during the first F1 Academy race of the weekend.
